Yesterday we went into Boogie Back studio and recorded a version of Just Reach. I always thought the original was too slow.I have a memory of saying so at the time but that doesn't mean that actually happened. The original was done in Britania Row studios in Islington with Demus and The Mystic T producing but I think the demo version was done at Boogie back so nice to circle again.
Gets hot up in Attic studios and the spring sun was blazing so it feels like a good festival version. The plan isto do a heavy funk versionI a New York house version and some other dance versions of whatever niche of a niche it feels it wants to go in.Perhaps the dub step broken dub french genre i've forgotten the name of, feels like it could be a direction.(They all 'feel' like they could be a direction).
We plan to put out some vinyl and digital versions out over the summer with new tunes; 'Green Banana' , 'Something like Music' and the 'Slack Hands' mashed with 'The Joubert singers' that we've been doing live, all set for release. There's a video coming ... we will use the mailing list to get people to send in their versions of Samuel L Jackson crossing the Brooklyn Bridge in the opening sequence of the film '187'. Any bridge will do and any bike will do. Just look like you're off to teach at school in the mid 1990s, preferably in Brooklyn but Taunton Somerset will do if you need motivation a little closer to home.If Taunton Somerset is nowhere near home then you are at liberty to take creative freedom.
Now i'm off to find the contacts for a sax player who will hopefully grace us with her presence at the studio to play on 'Green Banana' and 'Something like Music' I also think 'Just reach' could benefit from a new 'sound up'.. the same way i think 'Jazz' on the 'Halfway Somewhere 'album benefitted from our old friend and Don Jason Yarde ...
